Experienced performance leader brings Liverpool, Leicester City and Celtic credentials as Axon Perform extends its international rugby expertise into UK and European football.
Axon Perform has appointed Glen Driscoll as an adviser to support its expansion into UK and European football, building on its experience working with several of the world’s leading international rugby teams.
Driscoll, an experienced Head of Performance whose career includes roles at Liverpool, Leicester City and Celtic, has worked within performance teams that have won honours including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and FA Cup.
He will help Axon Perform translate its data insight expertise into the demands of professional football, with a particular focus on helping ambitious clubs access analytical capability usually associated with a dedicated data team.
The appointment comes as Axon Perform establishes itself in the northern hemisphere, with CEO Jon Foote relocating from New Zealand to Europe to oversee the company’s expansion.
For clubs with smaller performance departments, investment in technology can create a growing workload. Staff must download, organise and combine information from different systems before they can investigate the questions that matter to coaches and players.
Axon Perform connects existing performance data and automates its preparation for analysis, helping clubs get more value from their current people and technology. Its approach gives practitioners access to specialist data infrastructure without the cost and resources required to recruit and maintain a full internal technical team.
Jon Foote, CEO of Axon Perform, said: “Glen understands what it takes to turn performance expertise into success within a football club. His experience will help us bring what we have developed in international rugby into football in a way that reflects the pressures and priorities of the people doing the work.
“There are ambitious clubs with excellent practitioners who have the questions and ideas, but need the technical capability to take them further. We want to give those people more scope to influence performance. Glen will play an important role in helping us deliver that.”
Driscoll’s involvement will help align Axon Perform’s approach with the practical needs of football performance departments, from making information available sooner to freeing staff to spend more time developing and delivering their programmes.
Glen Driscoll said: “What interests me about Axon Perform is the opportunity to give good performance staff more capability. There are talented people across football who know what they want to investigate, but whose time is taken up preparing data or whose ideas need technical support to develop.
“For an ambitious club with a smaller department, being able to draw on that expertise could make a significant difference. It means staff can get to useful answers sooner and spend more time applying their knowledge with coaches and players. That is an opportunity I’m keen to help Axon Perform bring into football.”
Axon Perform is engaging with UK and European clubs seeking to develop their performance data capability and get greater value from their existing investment in people and technology.
