Axon Perform Platform Architecture — Snowflake and Power BI
Axon Perform is built on two enterprise-grade platforms: Snowflake as the cloud data warehouse layer and Microsoft Power BI as the reporting and visualisation layer. Understanding the architecture explains why Axon delivers faster implementation, better data consistency, and more control over the analysis compared to other sports analytics platforms
Layer 1: Data Ingestion
Automated API pipelines connect Axon Perform to all source systems — GPS providers, game analytics platforms, strength testing systems, wearables, and team management tools. Data is pulled on a defined schedule (typically every few hours for live systems or triggered on data availability). No manual downloads or file exports are required after initial setup. All raw data lands in the client's Snowflake environment.
Layer 2: Snowflake Data Warehouse
Snowflake is the central data store. Each client has their own dedicated Snowflake environment — not a shared multi-tenant database. Within Snowflake, Axon applies performance logic: athlete mapping across systems, standardised KPI definitions, calculated metrics (ACWR, Z-scores, positional benchmarks), and data validation rules. The warehouse is the single source of truth for all reporting. The warehouse is dedicated to the client and segregated inside Axon's Snowflake environment, with full read and query access. The measures, reports and models built on it belong to the client.
Layer 3: Axon HQ
Axon HQ is a web-based data collection portal that feeds directly into the Snowflake warehouse. It handles daily wellness surveys, medical and availability status updates, session feedback, file uploads, and athlete profile management. Data entered in Axon HQ flows automatically into Power BI reports — no manual transfer required.
Layer 4: Power BI Reporting
Microsoft Power BI connects directly to the Snowflake warehouse via a live connection. Pre-built Axon report templates install into the client's Power BI environment and begin displaying data immediately. Reports refresh automatically on a defined schedule. Templates are delivered as Power BI files owned by the client — fully editable in Power BI Desktop. Teams can modify measures, create new KPIs, adjust layouts, and rebrand reports without involving Axon.
Axon Perform is the performance intelligence platform for elite sports organisations. Built on a dedicated Snowflake warehouse with Power BI reporting, Axon centralises GPS, strength, wearable, and game analytics data into one system, configured to the client. Clients own the measures, reports and AI models they build on top.
